L’artiste canadien David Hartt, professeur associé au département des Beaux-Arts de l’université de Pennsylvanie (Etats-Unis), est invité dans le cadre d’un programme destiné à faire connaître en France les scènes artistiques afro-américaines. La résidence itinérante de l’artiste est coordonnée par l’Association nationale des écoles d’art (ANdÉa) avec le soutien de la Fondation Ford et de la Villa Albertine.
Sa conférence inaugurale à la Villa Arson est intitulée “The Ruin of History” ; elle sera suivie d’une conversation avec Vanina Géré, professeur d’histoire de l’art et Jean-Louis Paquelin, professeur en art/programmation.
Né à Montréal en 1967, David Hartt utilise une grande variété de matériaux et de techniques, notamment la photographie, la vidéo, la sculpture et l’installation pour dévoiler les complexités sociales, culturelles et économiques et explorer la façon dont les idées et les idéaux historiques persistent ou changent au fil du temps, souvent par le prisme de l’architecture, de l’urbanisme et du design.
Son travail a été largement exposé à travers le monde, notamment au Hammer Museum de Los Angeles, au Museum of Contemporary Art de New York et à la Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo à Turin. Son oeuvre est présente dans les collections publiques du Museum of Modern Art de New York, du Whitney Museum of American Art de New York, du Studio Museum in Harlem de New York, du RISD Museum de Providence et de l’Art Institute de Chicago.

Canadian artist David Hartt, Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania (USA), is invited to France as part of a program designed to raise awareness of the African-American art scene. The artist’s itinerant residency is coordinated by AndÉA, Association nationale des écoles d’art with the support of the Ford Foundation and Villa Albertine.
His inaugural lecture at Villa Arson is entitled “The Ruin of History” ; it will be followed by a conversation with Vanina Géré, Professor of Art History and Jean-Louis Paquelin, Professor of Art/Programming.
Born in Montreal in 1967, David Hartt uses a wide variety of materials and techniques, including photography, video, sculpture and installation, to reveal social, cultural and economic complexities and explore how historical ideas and ideals persist or change over time, often through the prism of architecture, urbanism and design.
His work has been widely exhibited around the world, including at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin.
