Villa Arson is pleased to take part in the fifth edition of the Franco-British artist residency programme Magnetic.
Launched in 2022 under the aegis of Fluxus Art Projects, Magnetic is the result of a collaboration between the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and the UK’s public arts funding bodies—the three Arts Councils of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland—and, for Scotland, Creative Scotland. These partners are joined by the Institut français in Paris, the French Ministry of Culture, and the British Council.
In 2026, Magnetic brings together ten leading arts institutions: five in France—CAPC in Bordeaux, Frac Bretagne in Rennes, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk, Villa Arson in Nice, and Bétonsalon in Paris—and five in the United Kingdom—Wysing Arts Centre in England, Flax Art Studios in Northern Ireland, Cove Park in Scotland, Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales, and Gasworks in London, England.
Magnetic is gradually building an expanding network of partner residencies that share common commitments and values.
Key features of Magnetic:
- A structured, long-term bilateral cooperation programme.
- A selection of artist residencies linked to eight decentralized arts institutions and two in London and Paris, all sharing common values.
- Contemporary social and environmental issues lie at the heart of the programme: artists develop their work in response to each specific context—geographical, historical, social, or artistic.
- Each artist receives a minimum monthly grant of €2,500 for a two-month residency, along with curatorial support, accommodation, and studio space.
- Tailor-made residencies, designed in consultation with curatorial teams, enabling artists to engage with a wide network throughout their stay.
Each residency is based on a tandem partnership between a French region and a UK nation. Villa Arson, located in the Région Sud, is partnered with Cove Park in Scotland. Artists from the Région Sud are invited to apply for the residency at Cove Park, while Scottish artists are invited to apply for the residency at Villa Arson.
