La Villa Arson accueille en résidence la chorégraphe, danseuse et réalisatrice iranienne, Tanin Torabi, du
2 septembre 2024 au au 31 août 2025. Réalisée avec le soutien du Collège de France, cette résidence permettra à Tanin Torabi de poursuivre ses recherches chorégraphiques à travers des projets de performances et de films. Elle collaborera avec Caroline Challan-Belval dans le cadre de son cours Dessin et architecture en tant qu’artiste invitée, et proposera le cours Movement in Focus : A Playground aux étudiant·es de la Villa Arson. Tout au long de sa résidence, elle proposera également des workshops autour de la réalisation de films de danse et des projections de films.
Avec plus de dix ans d’expérience dans la réalisation de films de danse, Tanin Torabi s’est distinguée par ses courts métrages à prise unique dans les espaces urbains de Téhéran, décrits par les critiques comme « repoussant les limites de la réalisation de films de danse ».
En 2021, Tanin Torabi a été présentée par Dance Magazine comme l’une des « 9 réalisatrices de films de danse à connaître».
Ses œuvres ont été présentées dans plus de 200 festivals et institutions à travers le monde et ont obtenu de nombreux prix.
Tanin Torabi est régulièrement invitée à animer des ateliers à l’étranger (The Place London, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, ArtEZ Arnhem, Mov’in Cannes, Tetralab Screendance) et en tant que membre du jury de festivals (Mov’in Cannes dans le cadre du Festival de Danse de Cannes, France – Dance Camera West, états-Unis – Jacksonville Dance Film Festival, états-Unis).
Son film Until (2023) a obtenu le Grand prix du jury de Cinedans (Pays-Bas), le prix du meilleur récit original du festival ZED (Italie), le prix du jury du festival du film d’artiste AVIFF à Cannes et la Mention spéciale du Cinédanse

The Derive, réalisé en 2017, est l’un des films de danse les plus souvent présentés dans les festivals, remportant de nombreux prix, notamment le prix du meilleur film au San Francisco Dance Film Festival, au Dance Camera West Film Festival (états-Unis) et à la Southampton Film Week (Grande-Bretagne).
En tant que chorégraphe et interprète, Tanin Torabi a collaboré avec de nombreux artistes au niveau
international : la chorégraphe Yoshiko Chuma, basée à New York, dans le cadre de ses spectacles Love Story: Zooma-Dead End et Stop Calling them Dangerous ; avec le chorégraphe iranien Sina Saberi pour sa pièce Narges au K3 à Hambourg, avec l’artiste Nathalie Joffre pour son installation Inconsolatas à l’occasion de la Nuit Blanche 2024 et avec la commissaire Cassandre Langlois pour sa recherche curatoriale The Way We Perform Today à la Cité Internationale des Arts, pour ne citer que les plus récents.
En 2024, Tanin Torabi a obtenu une bourse de sept mois de l’Institut Français pour mener une recherche à la Cité Internationale des Arts à Paris. Elle a également été invitée en tant qu’artiste associée à Dance Limerick en Irlande et au Festival Montpellier Danse.
Tanin Torabi est titulaire d’un master en danse contemporaine de l’université de Limerick (Irlande) et d’une licence en sociologie de l’Institut Bahá’í pour l’enseignement supérieur (Iran).

Villa Arson welcomes Iranian choreographer, dancer and director, Tanin Torabi, in residence from September 2, 2024 to August 31, 2025. Made with the support of the Collège de France, this residency will enable Tanin Torabi to pursue her choreographic research through performance and film projects. She will be collaborating with Caroline Challan Belval on her Drawing & Architecture course as an invited artist, and offers the Movement in Focus: A Playground course to the Villa Arson students. Moreover, she will offer Screendance-Making workshops and film screenings during her residency period.
With over ten years of experience in dance filmmaking, she has distinguished herself with her single-take short dance films in Tehran’s urban spaces, described by critics as “pushing the boundaries of screendance”.
In 2021, she was featured by Dance Magazine as one of the “9 Screendance Artists You Should Know”.
Her work has been shown at over 200 festivals and institutions worldwide, and has won numerous awards.
Tanin Torabi is regularly invited to lead workshops abroad (The Place London, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, ArtEZ Arnhem, Mov’in Cannes, Tetralab Screendance) and as a jury member at festivals (Mov’in Cannes as part of the Festival de Danse de Cannes, France – Dance Camera West, USA – Jacksonville Dance Film Festival, USA).
