Chizu Anucha (alias chizu nnamdi) est en résidence à la Villa Arson du 29 janvier au 8 avril 2024, dans le cadre du programme Magnetic 2.
Ecossais d’origine nigériane, Chizu Anucha est diplômé de l’université Heriot-Watt d’Edimbourg en ingénierie structurelle et design architectural et titulaire d’un Master of Design de la Glasgow School of Art dans le domaine du son et de l’image en mouvement.
Multidisciplinaire et collaborative, sa pratique se situe à l’intersection de la composition musicale, de la vidéo et de la performance.
Son travail sur les images en mouvement est poétique et réflexif, tandis que sa musique rassemble conflits internes, aspirations et vestiges nostalgiques pour étudier les tensions historiques inhérentes à la représentation du corps noir. Il expérimente ainsi la formation de récits historiques et fictifs, souvent en recontextualisant des films d’archives et des collages de vidéos VHS avec une bande-son musicale au premier plan.
Son travail a été présenté dans de nombreux festivals, musées et centres d’art contemporain en Ecosse, notamment au Royal Glasgow Institute (2020), à Edinburgh Art Festival (2021), au Victoria & Albert Museum Dundee (2021), à la David Dale Gallery (2022), à la Burrell Collection (2023) ou encore au Glasgow Short Film Festival (2023).
Magnetic 2 est un programme de résidences d’artistes de Fluxus Art Projects qui réunit huit institutions : quatre en France – Villa Arson à Nice, CAPC à Bordeaux, Frac Bretagne à Rennes, Frac Grand Large à Dunkerque – et quatre au Royaume-Uni – Cove Park en Écosse, Wysing Arts Centre en Angleterre, Flax Art Studios en Irlande du Nord et Aberystwyth Arts Centre au Pays de Galles.

Chizu Anucha (aka chizu nnamdi) is in residency at Villa Arson from January 29 to April 8 in the framework of the Magnetic 2 program.
A Scotsman of Nigerian origin, Chizu Anucha graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in structural engineering and architectural design, and holds a Master of Design in sound for the moving image from Glasgow School of Art.
His multidisciplinary and collaborative practice is at the intersection of music composition, video and performance.
His moving image work is poetic and reflexive, while his music brings together internal conflicts, yearnings and nostalgic relics to investigate the historical tensions inherent in the publicness of the black body. With this he experiments in the formation of historical and fictional narratives, often by recontextualizing archive film and collages of VHS video with a music soundtrack at the fore.
His work has been presented in numerous festivals, museums and contemporary art centres in Scotland, including the Royal Glasgow Institute (2020), Edinburgh Art Festival (2021), Victoria & Albert Museum Dundee (2021), David Dale Gallery (2022), Burrell Collection (2023) and Glasgow Short Film Festival (2023).
Magnetic 2 is an artists residency programme of Fluxus Art Projects that brings together eight institutions: four in France – Villa Arson in Nice, CAPC in Bordeaux, Frac Bretagne in Rennes, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk- and four in the United Kingdom – Cove Park in Scotland, Wysing Arts Centre in England, Flax Art Studios in Northern Ireland and Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales. Magnetic will gradually build an expanding network of partner residencies with shared commitments and values.
