Tanin Torabi
Multi-award-winning director and choreographer Tanin Torabi, renowned for her dance films, will present three of her short dance films, which reflect her ongoing exploration of the body, the camera, and human relationships in socially engaged situations in Tehran, Iran. In a country where dance is banned and the presence of a camera is itself problematic, Tanin asks these questions: Where does dance begin? What is a prohibited camera? And how do we position ourselves, as individuals and artists, in such a society?
Short films:
The Derive – 2017 | 7 min 30 sec
In Plain Sight – 2021 | 10 min 26 sec
Until… – 2023 | 13’49”
After the screening, she will take part in an open discussion with choreographer, director, and producer Éric Oberdorff, who has been a witness, friend, and supporter throughout her career.
Bruno Moreno
Using choreography as a means of inventing political concepts of the body, his creations oscillate between performance, installation, and video. His work tends to remove the human body from its position as protagonist and sole performative agent.
During his three-month residency, he continues his research project Practices for Exhumation, in which he creates possible conversations between the history of death and that of dance. At Villa Arson, Bruno Moreno gives physical form to this reflection through a source that flows and evaporates at the rhythm of blood circulation.
Brigitte Louter
Brigitte’s work includes installations, sculptures, drawings, and a world record. She is interested in humanity’s relentless attempts to measure, order, and map everything in order to better understand it.
During her residency at Villa Arson, she conducted research on fruit flies, adaptability, and The Boring Billion. She created foldable works inspired by the form and function of industrial bellows that protect the moving parts of machines. This work in progress will be presented during the open house.
