l’orchestre inharmonique de nice
Established in 2011 as an alternative to traditional student brass bands, L’Orchestre Inharmonique de Nice (LOIN) is an improvisational ensemble with a fluid lineup. It is composed of students whose empirical musical practice is rooted in the concepts of collective listening. All types of instruments and voices are welcome, as well as any sounding or dissonant object.
Concerts are held every year with guests such as Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Claire Gapenne, Jean-Marc Montera, Meryll Ampe, the duo Hackedepicciotto (Einstürzende Neubauten), and, coming soon, Sandra Boss on April 30.
“The Sound of Time” (Sound conference)
Can we listen to the passing of time? What does the sound of time past noise like? Focusing on sonic fragility, this conference (led by Céleste Gatier and Catherine Guesde) will seek to define, as much as to blur, the multiple temporalities embedded within degraded sound.
Catherine Guesde
Lecturer in the Philosophy Department at Paris 8 Vincennes–Saint-Denis University; her research focuses on forms of sonic radicalism such as extreme metal and noise music.
Céleste Gatier
Sound artist, performer, and researcher in Japanese architectural history. She develops a transdisciplinary artistic approach focusing on the fragility of sound objects and their spatialization.
