Conference by Sylvie Réno

On November 26, 2025, Villa Arson will host a conference entitled “It’s been going on for 40 years and shows no sign of stopping!” by artist Sylvie Réno.

Sylvie Réno creates sculptures and installations made of corrugated cardboard that feature everyday objects (and some not so everyday ones) such as telephones, weapons, furniture, an escalator, and more. Made to scale and identical to the originals, these sculptures are never painted. They are harmless duplicates of everything that weighs us down and makes life harder. Her reproductions, duplicates, and copies offer a deactivated appearance. She always ends up finding ways to trap resemblance in her own game, to imitate in order to better limit the arrogance of others’ gazes.

At the same time, she collects all kinds of objects, which she displays in installations. Newspapers, lighter wheels, vodka bottles, medicine boxes, Marabout cards, candy wrappers, objects found in the street she revalues these insignificant collections by putting them on display.

Realistic, dystopian, conceptual, his work wages a battle long lost in advance, that of lucid representation against the illusion of reality.
