Conference by Lucinda Childs

On Tuesday 21 October 2025, Villa Arson welcomes Lucinda Childs, the iconic American choreographer and dancer of the postmodern movement, for a lecture on her exceptional career. From her beginnings in New York to her recent creations: her collaborations with major artists on the New York scene in the 1960s and 1970s, her collaboration with Dominique Drillot on her ballets over the last 25 years, and Philipp Glass’s operas Satyagraha and Akhnaten, recently staged at the Nice Opera House.
Biography of Lucinda Childs
Lucinda Child began her career in 1963 at the Judson Dance Theatre in New York. Since forming her company in 1973, she has created more than fifty works with major collaborators such as Philip Glass, Robert Wilson, John Adams, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Sol LeWitt, Frank Gehry, and others. In 1979, she produced Dance with music by Philip Glass and set design by Sol LeWitt, for which she received the Guggenheim Award. Lucinda Child has choreographed more than thirty ballets for major companies such as the Paris Opera and the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. She received the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for her lifetime achievement in 2017.
