Concert Inharmonic Orchestra x Hackedepicciotto

The Inharmonic Orchestra of Nice celebrates its fifteenth anniversary. Fifteen years of improvised music played by students from Villa Arson in Nice and, for the past few years, from the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris Cergy. On this occasion, we are thrilled to announce the arrival of Danielle de Picciotto (Love Parade) and Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), the duo Hackedepicciotto, to conduct this Orchestra for a public and free concert.
The opening act will be performed by Yoke (aka Alexandre Degorgue) following a creative residency at Villa Arson from April 28 to May 2, 2025.
Hackedepicciotto
For over 20 years, Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) and artist, musician, and filmmaker Danielle de Picciotto (co-founder of Love Parade) have been developing and evolving a symbiotic collaborative practice, with a deep intuition that has distinguished rare creative and romantic collaborations – think of writers Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne, artists Lee Miller and Man Ray, or independent cinema heroes Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes – each collaboration marked by a creative equality that has allowed both artists the freedom to explore and develop.
Individually, hackedepicciotto has been a pioneer since its inception. Alexander Hacke began experimenting with cassette loops at 14, in the early 80s, then joined Einstürzende Neubauten to create music that would influence generations of musicians. Danielle de Picciotto, fascinated by the early days of electronic music, founded the Berlin Love Parade in 1989. Singer of one of Berlin’s first crossover bands, The Space Cowboys, she later partnered with Gudrun Gut to create a female version of electronic music, well ahead of its time. In 2001, Hacke and de Picciotto began collaborating as hackedepicciotto, creating elaborate audiovisual multimedia performances in Berlin, before deciding to become nomadic. The duo left their home and traveled the world, boldly defying conventions and becoming a modern, musical version of Bonnie and Clyde, running from concert to concert and releasing albums at a dizzying pace.
Hackedepicciotto navigates between genres, from cinematic drone to industrial, experimental and spoken-word, oscillating between meditative sung harmonies and soundscapes, heavy drones and dazzling, lightning-fast symphonies, comparable to a perfect blend of OM, Dead Can Dance, Low and Arvo Pärt. Daniel Miller of Mute continues: “Their music is a genre unto itself, something new and very intriguing.”
The couple, married in 2006, has released countless albums and collaborated with Mick Harvey (Bad Seeds), Lustmord, Eric Hubel (Glenn Branca Ensemble), The Tiger Lillies, Kid Congo and Julee Cruise, among others. Alexander is a master of electronic sounds: he plays bass, guitar, percussion and practices guttural singing.
Danielle plays violin, hurdy-gurdy, autoharp, piano and writes lyrics for spoken songs that they sing in harmony.
Hackedepicciotto also composes film and theater soundtracks.
The Inharmonic Orchestra of Nice
The arrival of the Hackedepicciotto duo follows a long list of equally prestigious artists who have, over the years, conducted The Inharmonic Orchestra of Nice for a concert. In no particular order, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Méryll Ampe, Claire Gapenne (aka Terrine), Elodie Lesourd and Lionel Fernandez (Sister Iodine, Contumace), Jean-Marc Foussat, Xavier Boussiron, the Talweg duo, Etienne Jaumet (Zombie-Zombie), Jean-Marc Montera, Pedro Rocha and Charlemagne Palestine.
Finally, The Inharmonic Orchestra of Nice benefits from the unwavering support of Philippe Robert, music critic, who has written about The Orchestra (ed. Lenka Lente) and who accompanies each record release with a text, two LPs and a double LP so far, available via the ldrr.com website
At the invitation of Gauthier Tassart and Arnaud Maguet, a workshop by David Ritzinger will be offered to students to create screen-printed posters for the event.
YOKE
Yoke (aka Alexandre Degorgue) has been creating dense and organic sound spaces filled with drone, feedbacks and processed field-recordings since 2018. Between post-industrial music and noisy ambient constructed from electro-acoustic elements and modular synthesizers, YOKE’s sound creations play with tension, textures and temporality. Raw live performances lead to sharper recordings across various media: album/EP, short film scores (Under The Midnight Sun), exhibition soundtracks, and multi-channel broadcasts (Nœud Dans la Broussaille). He is also the founder of Radiation, a Chambéry-based association promoting exploratory music.
