For its third edition, the Magnetic program has selected artist Emilia Beatriz for a residency at Villa Arson and Violaine Barrois for a residency at Cove Park.

Initiated by Fluxus Art Projects, Magnetic brings together 10 residency locations in France and the United Kingdom. Currently associated with Cove Park in Scotland as part of a tandem partnership, Villa Arson has been part of the program since its creation in 2022 by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni.

Emilia Beatriz

Emilia Beatriz is a Puerto Rican diaspora artist based in Glasgow whose multidisciplinary practice is developed from sensory narratives composed of still and moving images, texts, immersive installations, and performances. They are co-founder of Collective Text, a collective whose actions aim to support accessibility in art and cinema.

During their residency at Villa Arson in February/March 2025, Emilia Beatriz will deepen their practice of sensory storytelling by creating new characters for speculative narratives about grief, resistance, and loss.

Violaine Barrois

Violaine Barrois is a French visual artist whose practice explores the relationship between humans and landscape as a lived and transformative experience. Working in Marseille, she explores how landscapes shape our identities, practices, and implicit knowledge, while revealing the importance of emotional value.

During her residency at Cove Park from October 28 to December 20, 2024, Violaine Barrois will focus on redefining the sensory relationship with coastal landscapes in an approach rooted in local cultural and ecological narratives.

The Magnetic Program

Created in 2022 under the aegis of Fluxus Art Projects, Magnetic is the result of a collaboration between the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and the British arts funding agencies, the three Arts Councils of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and for Scotland, Creative Scotland, joined by the Institut français in Paris, the Ministry of Culture and the British Council.

In 2024, Magnetic brings together ten leading artistic institutions: five in France – CAPC in Bordeaux, Frac Bretagne in Rennes, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk, Villa Arson in Nice, Bétonsalon in Paris – and five in the United Kingdom – Wysing Arts Centre in England, Flax Art Studios in Northern Ireland, Cove Park in Scotland, Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales and Gasworks in London, England. Magnetic is progressively building an expanding network of partner residencies sharing the same commitments and values.

Magnetic’s key points:
. A structuring and long-term bilateral cooperation program.
. A selection of artist residencies backed by eight decentralized artistic institutions and two in London and Paris that share common values.
. Contemporary societal and environmental issues are at the heart of the program: artists work according to each specific context – geographical, historical, societal or artistic.
. Each artist receives a minimum monthly stipend of 2500 euros for a two-month residency, benefits from curatorial support, accommodation and a studio.
. Tailor-made residencies, designed in consultation with the curatorial teams of the institutions, allowing artists to interact with a wide network throughout their stay.

Fluxus Art Projects and its Magnetic program are supported by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, the Institut français, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales / Wales Art international, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the British Council. Fluxus benefits from the valuable and loyal commitment of its patrons and friends.
