Villa Arson welcomes Rama Alashqar in residence from January 16, 2025 to May 15, 2025.
Rama Alashqar graduated from Birzet University in the West Bank in 2023 with a degree in Visual Arts. She uses paper and silicone to create forms whose appearance and texture are similar to human skin.
During her four-month residency, she develops her experimental work with materials in the Villa Arson workshops, and creates a new series of drawings and paintings depicting the stone terraces of the Palestinian landscape. Starting from a reflection on the fragility of bodies and their apparent plasticity, Rama Alashqar explores different textures and representations of skin, resulting in organic formations that evoke the rocky masses of her territory.
Rama Alashqar is a laureate of the new SAWA SAWA (“Together”) residency program run by the Institut français de Jérusalem, which aims to support the Palestinian art scene in times of conflict. Funded by the Consulate General of France in Jerusalem, this program is aimed at Palestinian artists in all disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, music, writing, cinema) living in Jerusalem or the West Bank, or from Gaza living abroad, to enable them to maintain a creative activity.
