Villa Arson is pleased to participate in the third edition of the Franco-British Magnetic artist residency program.
Created in 2022 under the aegis of Fluxus Art Projects, Magnetic is the result of a collaboration between the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and the British arts funding agencies, the three Arts Councils of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and for Scotland, Creative Scotland, joined by the Institut français in Paris, the Ministry of Culture and the British Council.
In 2024, Magnetic brings together ten leading artistic institutions: five in France – CAPC in Bordeaux, Frac Bretagne in Rennes, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk, Villa Arson in Nice, Bétonsalon in Paris – and five in the United Kingdom – Wysing Arts Centre in England, Flax Art Studios in Northern Ireland, Cove Park in Scotland, Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales and Gasworks in London, England.
Magnetic is progressively building an expanding network of partner residencies sharing the same commitments and values.
Magnetic’s key points:
. A structuring and long-term bilateral cooperation program.
. A selection of artist residencies backed by eight decentralized artistic institutions and two in London and Paris that share common values.
. Contemporary societal and environmental issues are at the heart of the program: artists work according to each specific context – geographical, historical, societal or artistic.
. Each artist receives a minimum monthly stipend of 2500 euros for a two-month residency, benefits from curatorial support, accommodation and a studio.
. Tailor-made residencies, designed in consultation with the curatorial teams of the institutions, allowing artists to interact with a wide network throughout their stay.
Each residency is based on a tandem partnership between a French region and a British nation. Villa Arson, located in the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, is associated with Cove Park in Scotland. Artists from the South PACA region are invited to apply for the residency at Cove Park and Scottish artists are invited to apply for the residency at Villa Arson.
The call for applications for Magnetic 3 is open until July 15, 2024.
The selection committee will meet in September and the results will be announced in October.
Fluxus Art Projects and its Magnetic program are supported by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, the Institut français, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales / Wales Art International, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the British Council.
